Last Saturday, we decided to finally check out the Amazing Human Body exhibition and it was one of the best things I’ve done since I came to Melbourne!! It was indeed AMAZING. One did not have to be of medical background to appreciate the quality and anatomical detail of the plastination, the vast array of bodies on display, the progression from one body system to the next… it was a great Anatomy refresher course for me…
It makes me want to see an autopsy now!!! I would love to spend more time around dead bodies!!

The specimens were all voluntary donors, and what I enjoyed most about them was the way the plastination highlighted either bony parts, arteries, pathology, muscles etc. and also the way the bodies were sealed in a particular movement, like skiing or playing tennis (not bad for a dead guy!).
As explained on the exhibit website FAQs:
What is the difference between plastinates & man-made artificial models?
The plastinated specimens show the details of disease, pathology, physiology and anatomy in a unique way that cannot be shown with models, textbooks or photos. In addition, the exhibition allows audiences to understand that each and every body has its own unique features, even on the inside. It is an established fact that audiences relate far better to real specimens (such as the plastinates) rather than man-made artificial models.
