For those that don’t know him, Major General Peter Cosgrove is an “Australian treasure!”

General Cosgrove was interviewed on the radio recently.

You’ll love his reply to the lady who interviewed him concerning guns and children.

Regardless of how you feel about gun laws you gotta love this! This is one of the best comeback lines of all time. It is a portion of an ABC interview between a female broadcaster and General Cosgrove who was about to sponsor a Boy Scout Troop visiting his military headquarters.

FEMALE INTERVIEWER:
So, General Cosgrove, what things are you going to teach these young boys when they visit your base?

GENERAL COSGROVE:
We’re going to teach them climbing, canoeing, archery and shooting.

FEMALE INTERVIEWER:
Shooting! That’s a bit irresponsible, isn’t it?

GENERAL COSGROVE:
I don’t see why, they’ll be properly supervised on the rifle range.

FEMALE INTERVIEWER:
Don’t you admit that this is a terribly dangerous activity to be teaching children?

GENERAL COSGROVE:
I don’t see how. We will be teaching them proper rifle discipline before they even touch a firearm.

FEMALE INTERVIEWER:
But you’re equipping them to become violent killers.

GENERAL COSGROVE:
Well, Ma’am, you’re equipped to be a prostitute, but you’re not one, are you?

The radio went silent and the interview ended.

Jennifer’s wedding day was fast approaching. Nothing could dampen her excitement — not even her parents’ nasty divorce. Her mother had found the PERFECT dress to wear and would be the best dressed mother-of-the-bride ever!
A week later, Jennifer was horrified to learn that her father’s new young wife had bought the exact same dress as her mother! Jennifer asked her step mom to exchange it, but she refused. “Absolutely not. I look like a million bucks in this dress, and I’m wearing it,” she replied.
Jennifer told her mother who graciously said, “Never mind sweetheart. I’ll get another dress. After all, it’s your special day.”
A few days later, they went shopping and did find another gorgeous dress. When they stopped for lunch, Jennifer asked her mother, “Aren’t you going to return the other dress? You really don’ t have another occasion where you could wear it.”
Her mother just smiled and replied, “Of course I do, dear. I’m wearing it to the rehearsal dinner the night before the wedding.”

So, are you wondering whether Zazou already lost it, deep in the sticks, in the green burbs, alone, and without wheels (except for the pram)? That would be disregarding the Zazou Power, which saves you from cabin fever. After a few horrendous days spent unpacking and sorting through a whole bunch (tons) of stuff (work still in progress, no pressure), a few more days spent cocooning with Etienne, whom I unfortunately had to neglect (slightly) in order to prepare for the move, I finally settled in the area and found where/how to use public transport with Etienne’s super pram. I have also found a nice café walking distance from the house, where I can recharge my batteries (thank heavens for Melbourne’s coffee which has helped me survive so far)… and a couple of nice food shops like a grocer’s and a deli.

What’s on this month with Bubba:

  1. Register on the chilcare centre’s waiting list so that Etienne can catch all sorts of illnesses play one day a week with little friends while mummy lives her life, at last!
  2. Go to baby swimmers with the tram, a real expedition with the bagpack and the stroller…
  3. Go to the Babes in Arms session at the movies, with the hope that there won’t be a dirty brown nappy to change in the middle
  4. Try and meet up with friends from mothers group, there are 8 of us in total so it is a bit chaotic to synchronise all those bubs but we are believers!

In Australia, Mothers Day is celebrated on 11 May (vs. 11 June in France) and, to be cheerfully opportunistic, this year is my first Mothers Day and I get to celebrate it twice!

I will wait until 11 June to celebrate my own Mum, in the meantime I wish a Happy Day to the mums that I know down under.
